Yonic and education
Because of very poor educational structure, Yonic is involved in a school project in Itacaré since 2005. The first two years we rented a house to host the primary school. Since 2008, the school takes place in the local we build on a land that was donated for this purpose (1 ha in a discriminated neighborhood at the edge of the city right next to the rain forest). Although the school is private as it doesn’t receive any governmental financial aid, it hosts a percentage of kids from the disadvantaged neighborhood and suffering of malnutrition.Today the school hosts more then 70 students, from kinder garden to primary and the percentage of disadvantaged students is of 10%.
We wish to raise this level up to 50% but for that we need financial support. We need godfathers/mothers to adopt a child and pay for the scholarship of R$ 200/month (80 €). The investment can’t be for less than a year and hopefully for more. This scholarship includes school with one snack/day, books and clothes. The more godfathers we have, more discriminated kids we can include in the program. We also need investment to maintain the locals as to finish building parts of it. Our objective in the future is to use this local for other courses like professional ones as the primary school uses the school only in the afternoon. We have morning and night shifts for other classes.
